There are several techniques one can use to make projects more interesting, techniques such as split screen are useful in saving time by showing two or more different pieces of footage at once. Split screen techniques are extremely useful in projects that are time limited such as commercials which usually run only about thirty seconds. It is difficult to pick and choose what pieces of footage go with other pieces, but that is something to work out during the pre production phase. Another good tip for commercials is to use symbolic meaning and appeal to the emotions of your target audience. Whether it be through a filter you add to the commercial or the type of music you have playing in the back ground, it’s imperative that the desired message gets to the target audience.
Commercials are just one of the many types of projects that video production teams produce, there are also movies, television shows, shorts, and internet shows. The important thing to remember no matter what type of project you are working on is there are appropriate and inappropriate types of filters and effects you can apply to an individual project, and you have to just use your better judgment to decide how to edit each individual piece of footage to make it flow fluidly and appropriately.
