Every once in awhile you will see a ‘Director’s Cut’ of a video, this is a video that has the directors favorite scenes, that may not have made it into the final product due to content or time. No matter what the project you are going to have extra scenes shot that aren’t going to make it into your final product, it’s important to keep all of the footage you shoot though in the event you want to make your own private cut of the video, or just to use in future projects. Now your own cut of the video may not be seen by many people, however it is still an important part of the overall process. Through making your own cut you might create an effect or transition that you will want to use in the final product. Sure it’s double the work, making two versions of the same video, but it’s a satisfying process, you will have the version that you are going to release to the world, and your own private version to show your friends and may release to the public in years to come.
Another consideration for your project will be a blooper reel. There are always going to be hilarious out takes that you will want to save, if for nothing else than memories. Bloopers are always a good way to spice up the end credits, no one is going to stay and watch nine minutes of words scrolling on a black background, but if a series of bloopers is spread throughout the credits, people will be more likely to watch.
